Media Representations:

Fast moving images are used frequently in the film as it connotes an action and adventurous film. The editing is also very fast paced which also suggests that the film has a lot going on as the film genre is action. The film also includes many heroic sound effects which match the genre and the theme.

Institution:

Spider man is a big budget hollywood movie which Columbia pictures have produced.

Genre:

The genre of Spider-man 2 is Action, which also has a romance theme which gives the technical, scientific film a light hearted theme (love triangle).

Representation:

There are not many representations, however there are both roles of males and females, but the males have a more active role and the females have a more passive which indicates an unfair representation, there are also children used in the film when looking up to spiderman as a superhero.

Audience:

There are many groups this film is targeted at, primarily the children as this film focuses on the topic of a supernatural male hero who come and saves everybody from evil. The audince gender is mainly young boys and males as this is what the protaginist is and this also influences the males.

Values and Ideologies:

The ideology is of the women having a passive role, even though this film is modern and contemporary which indicates that feminism is not successful. There is also the male gaze theory, which also suggests the damsel-in-distress theme which indicates the male active role. The film also has an all white starcast suggesting the high status quo of the western world.

Narrative:

The film is a sequel of the first spider-man, however this film has a todorovian structure and also propp's hero/villain narrative roles and levi-strausss' binary oppositions.

Women still have a passive role in both reality and in the media, which indicates that there areno change. Also the role of the superhero portrays that there should be an image of this in young peoples minds, which can also be brainwashing and confusing for them.

This was a big budget film and had also received a lot as this was produced Columbia pictures.

The political contexts suggest that the film suggests that there are dominant groups ruling this world, which is subliminaly suppresing the audience.
